Most South Indian breakfast recipes are healthy or can be made healthy by replacing all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour. Some recipes require some preparation such as soaking rice and lentils for idli or dosa. Recipes like idli, dosa, upma, appam can also be packed in a tiffin box for children.
1. Idli
Idli is a soft steamed cake made with fermented flour of rice and lentils. Idli is the staple food of South India. However, due to its simplicity, it is liked by everyone and everywhere in South or North India or outside India also. Idli is served with sambar and coconut chutney. 2. Dosa

Fluffy, soft and very tasty, this Chettinad-style appam is one to bookmark for your breakfast. With a soft and thick centerpiece and a paper-thin exterior, appam can be paired well with sambar or vegetable stew.
9. Dibba Rotti or Minapa Rotti
This is a very interesting, healthy and delicious recipe from the state of Andhra Pradesh. Dibba roti is also known as Minapa rotti. It is made with urad dal and idli ravva. It is crisp like dosa from the outside and soft and fluffy like idli from the inside. It can be served for breakfast with chutney or pickle. You may also like dibba rotti using idli batter.
10. Pathiri
Pathiri is a chapati made with rice flour. I am sharing the recipe here for a deep-fried pathiri called neypathiri from the Malabar region. Pathiri is a perfectly flavored deep fried recipe made using rice flour. It has the wonderful taste of hot chilies and the subtle and fruity taste of fresh coconut.
